The mascot for the FIFA world cup 2018 was selected in a unique way. The selection of the official FIFA 2018 mascot was done through an online voting poll. A total of 51,000 Russian fans participated in the online voting for the FIFA 2018 mascot. The results of the poll was announced on 22nd October 2016. The competing mascots were wolf, tiger and cat. A whopping one million votes were casted for this decision. The percentage of votes for different mascot options are 53% votes for Wolf, 27% for Tiger and 20% for Cat.  The winning mascot was wolf which was designed by a Russian student named Ekaterina Bocharova.
